A glance through the pages of History

An English medium school in the small, sleepy, historic town of Bhuj was a far off dream until the Jesuit Missionary Fathers of Ahmedabad took up the reins of an already existing school and started it a new in 1977. The first Principal was Rev. Fr Manucheril and the school was initially housed in a rented building -The Leva Patel Samaj building. In 1977-78 as the first SSC batch came out with a 100% result, there has been no looking back. Word started to spread and in just three years enrolment doubled.

The new challenge was to build our own institution. The selection of the place for this new venture was on the foothills of the Bhujiyo – raised area, from where we can get the view of Bhuj. This was an apt place for the school for we could provide large playgrounds for physical training and have a noise free and pollution free environment for the students. St. Mary’s Church built in 1835 which is the oldest church in Gujarat, is also adjacent to the premises which gives spiritual nourishment to the inmates of the school. Geographically the school stands tall but academically too St. Xavier’s is now the tallest.

In 1978, 17 June the foundation stone was laid by the then Gujarat Assembly speaker Shri Kundanlal Dholakia. In 1981-82 the school started functioning in its very own premises inaugurated by Rev. Bishop Jonas Thaliath.  Today St. Xavier’s school houses over 2000 students and follows the Gujarat State Board. It provides outstanding quality of education.

The school continues to grow in size and stature, securing very good results in the Boards. We are therefore delight that our current achievements reflect those of our founders and all those followed later, who had an extensive and varying experience in education and a unique dedication to the mission of the founding fathers.

The 2001 earthquake, led to the slight damage of the building and major changes were made in its infrastructure. The new admin wing and the Higher Secondary classes wing was constructed which was inaugurated by Bishop Gregorey Karotemprel on 3 July 2004. The school was now at the peak of its academic achievements and in 1987 and 2000 the school was authorized to offer science and commerce in the Higher Secondary courses. We now offer all grades from Play house to Std 12.

In 2010-11, the new wing of the primary section was completed. With the completion of the building, the school now has several classrooms to accommodate the students very comfortable.  The School makes various developments and facilities for the interest and holistic developments of the students every year. The School continues to bring out the colourful results in the board Examinations and thus producing very valuable citizens who doing very well in their respective careers in the society.
